Quercetin May Help Relieve Chronic Prostatits -
Chronic Prostatitis, where the prostate gland is inflamed, is a common and
uncomfortable male condition. The author of this study believes that constant
inflammatory injury response to the area may cause the symptoms. Quercetin is a
widely used bioflavanoid for preventing inflammatory response. The open label,
unblended study, showed that of eleven patients with prostatodynia symptoms, 82%
had a reduction in symptoms. Of the 9 patients with non-bacterial prostatitis,
67% had complete and durable resolution of symptoms. The patients with chronic
bacterial prostatitis showed a 42% complete improvement Note that supplementing
with quercetin should be avoided if taking quinolone antibiotics, often the
standard urological treatment for prostatitis, for it may act as a competitive
inhibitor.

FDA Approves Voluntary GM Labeling -
The FDA recently stated that manufacturers may voluntarily label
foods made with bioengineered ingredients. This means that consumers will still
not have the right to choose their food with or without GMOs. The only way to be
sure one is getting non-GMO food is if certified organic.
B-Vitamin Supplementation May Help With Renal Disease -
In a group of 21 patients with chronic kidney failure, uncharacteristically high
Homocysteine levels dropped one-third after 4 weeks of B-12 (1mg), B-6 (150mg)
and folic acid (15mg) supplementation. Their fibrinogen and Lp (a) levels also
fell by about 20%. Researchers say that these vitamins appear to block the
synergistic process of accelerated oxidative stress that can trigger
inflammation and, in turn, damage blood vessels.

Vitamin C Intake Linked to Lower Death Rates -
According to a four year study published in the Lancet, people who
consume the most vitamin C from their diets may only have half the death rate of
people who consume the least vitamin C. The most dramatic finding was a 93%
decrease in the risk of death from heart disease in women who consumed the most
vitamin C as opposed to the least. Men had a 68% lower risk of dying from heart
disease and 53% lower risk of dying from cancer. The subjects of the new report
were more than 19,000 men and women from Norfolk, England, with no history of
heart disease, cancer, or stroke.
Vitamin E and Oatmeal Study -
A Yale School of Medicine study published in the American Journal of Preventive
Medicine showed that either a bowl of oatmeal or 800IU Vitamin E prevented
arterial dysfunction associated with eating a high fat meal (milk shake with ice
cream and cream of coconut). The study was funded by Quaker Oats.
Peppermint Oil May Ease Irritable Bowel Symptoms -
Peppermint oil was found to be therapeutic for approximately 75% of children
with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in a recent study published in the Journal
of Pediatrics. Symptoms such as bloating, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal
cramps were reduced with peppermint supplementation.
