| How
the Peanut Butter Recall May Affect
You. |
Hundreds
of peanut butter products are being
recalled throughout the country due to
an association with a salmonella
outbreak.
Salmonella
can create serious injury and in
certain situations can be
life-threatening. Until the outbreak
is contained, we ask that you read the
labels and remove any products you
consume that are indicated in the
recall.
The
FDA has posted the list of products
that have been recalled, http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/peanutbutterrecall/index.cfm.
Some of these you may consume
frequently (i.e. Luna Bars, Clif Bars,
jarred peanut butter).
In
an ideal state, our digestive tract
contains a balance of good and bad
bacteria, including salmonella.
Adverse effects may occur when the gut
becomes overpopulated with bad
bacteria. Children, the elderly, and
those with weakened immune systems are
particularly susceptible.
If
you think that you or a family member
have consumed a contaminated peanut
butter product, we recommend that you
contact your physician and read the
CDC's explanation of symptoms
of salmonella poisoning.
As
a preventative, add or double your
probiotic intake for the short-term.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you
have any questions or concerns.
