Two
of the foremost researchers regarding
genetics and nutrition have spoken. We
have and continue to hold S Boyd Eaton
and Loren Cordain in the highest
regard. Their original research,
published in 2000, started a movement.
Since then, their research has become
even more meaningful.
Why should this be important to you?
These scientists have further cemented
the ideals that encapsulates being a
Nutritional Concepts client. Eaton and
Cordain confirm that not only are YOU
on the right path, but future
generations are as well.
Forgive us for grossly basking in
their commentary. Not only do Eaton
and Cordain, in their subtle way, call
out Big Food, Big Academia, Big
Nutrition, Big Agriculture, and Big
Government, they present the data in
such pragmatic fashion.
The following excerpts appear in the
February issue of The
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
We
Are No Different From Our Ancestors
According to Eaton and Cordain,
"nearly all the genes and
epigenetic regulatory mechanisms we
carry today were originally selected
for behaviorally modern humans who
appeared in Africa between 100,000 and
50,000 years ago. Genetic evolution
during subsequent millennia has
continued, as shown by pigmentation
changes, intestinal lactase retention
beyond infancy, and adaptive defenses
to microorganisms. However,
core biochemical and physiologic
processes have been preserved.
Accordingly, it can be argued that the
typical diet, physical activity
patterns, and body composition of late
Paleolithic humans remain normative
for contemporary humans - and models
for disease-prevention
recommendations."
Conventional Nutrition Advice Flawed
They go on to say
"unbiased observers would agree
that nutritional advice from
conventional sources, whether based
upon epidemiological or mechanistic
findings, has not affected complex
degenerative disease incidence and
prevalence as much as might be wished.
Gradually, such recommendations (and
some biomarker goals) are shifting
toward the ancestral exemplar."
Come Together, Right Now
"The health research
community needs to organize its terms,
concepts, observations, and arguments
in accordance with paeloanthropologic
insights. To achieve a paradigm shift
of this magnitude will require the
mental agility to integrate ideas and
data from widely separate disciplines
- heretofore an uncommon
characteristic of our much-fragmented
academic community."
The Results Are Undeniable
Eaton and Cordain state,
"Groups whose way of life tends
to continue the Stone Age pattern have
low rates of complex degenerative
diseases. The Paleolithic health
paradigm heightens expectations as a
psychologically powerful influence on
future health-related public
behavior."
As recently observed in journal Nature,
"It is difficult to refute the
assertion that if modern populations
returned to a hunter-gatherer state
then obesity and diabetes would not be
the major public health threats that
they are now."
Renowned genetics and nutrition
expert, Dr. Artemis Simopoulos, agrees
with a return to a modified hunter
gatherer approach: "Our genes
today are very similar to the genes of
40,000 years ago, at which time our
genetic profile was established.
Humans today live in a nutritional
environment that differs from that for
which our genetic constitution was
selected."
Is
Eating the Way Our Ancestors Did Still
Possible?
Of course it is possible! Many of you
are already doing it. It is called the
Circle
of Health, which is our
modified version of the Mediterranean
Diet.
Conclusion
In addition to providing two dynamite
charts which further explain their
findings (a must see by clicking on
link below), Eaton and Cordain finish
their commentary with the following:
"Proponents of evolutionary
health promotion maintain that this
principle applies to all the complex
degenerative "diseases of
civilization" and that an
appreciation of human experience
during the late Paleolithic will
eventually become the foundation for
preventive research and
recommendations."

We
have been receiving reports from
clients who are not receiving our
eNewsletters and responses to their
email questions. Rest assured that
your questions are being answered and
that our eNewsletters are being
published.
You may be having trouble because email providers have been cracking down on email they think is SPAM
(email sent without permission).
Here's how you can assure that emails
from us get through:
- Check
your email settings.
You may have inadvertently blocked
or designated our email as spam.
Every email provider has a link
called "Settings." There
should be a category called
"Spam Settings." Click
on that and make sure you did not
designate mail from our email
addresses to be
"blocked" or considered
spam.
- Put
us in your email address book.
Make sure that you enter both
nutrocon@aol.com and
support@nutritionalconcepts.com
into your email address
book/contacts list. This way your
email provider will recognize us
as a friend.
- Check
your spam folder.
Just as everyone has an inbox and
sent folder, there is the spam
folder, which houses emails
recognized as spam by your email
provider. If you send us an email
and do not receive a response from
us within 24-48 hours, chances are
it went into your spam folder. If
your settings hold spam emails for
a period of days or weeks, you
will most likely find our email(s)
there.
Do
not hesitate to contact us if you need
further direction.
