Dear Valued Client,
|
Let's be honest. Most sports drinks and energy bars are deplorable. Most are not real foods. We're in the midst of a real food revolution. Let's
embrace it!

The Good, Bad, and Mostly Ugly
|
SPORTS DRINKS
UGLY
Accelerade - contains sucrose, fructose, artificial sweetener, and yellow dye.
Gatorade Products -
Tiger, G2, Edge, Extreme, Energy Drink, Endurance Formula, and even the new Protein Recovery Shakes - contain sucrose, glucose, artificial colors, and
flavors.
Powerade - contains high fructose corn syrup, brominated vegetable oil (known to depress thyroid function).
Powerbar Endurance - contains dextrose, fructose, and maltodextrin.
Propel, also in the Gatorade family, is just as bad - contains two different kinds of artificial sweeteners (sucralose, acesulfame potassium) and
sucrose.
BAD
Vitamin Water - used to be amazing until they added crystalline fructose.
GOOD
Clif Shot Electrolyte - contains rice syrup solids.
Ultima - maltodextrin, stevia.
Endura - maltodextrin (corn-derived), fructose (fruit-derived); don't like the corn, but has significant amounts of electrolytes, recovery vitamins,
minerals, and amino acids.
Glaceau Smart Water - distilled water with electrolytes.
Whole Foods 365 Electrolyte Water.
ENERGY BARS
Most energy bars are loaded with artificial ingredients, allergens, sugar, and artificial sweeteners. We only listed Bonnie-approved items because
they have been proven to be well tolerated by our clients.
Luna Bars
Nutiva Hempseed Bars
Lara Bars
Maya Bars
Living Fuel Coco Chia Bars
Be aware of food intolerants/allergens even in these items.
CONCLUSION
While we have analyzed hundreds of energy bars and sports drinks, there are always some that fall through the cracks. If you have a product that
warrants evaluation, please email
us the full ingredient label, and after careful consideration, will update this list in our next newsletter.
