Unfortunately, the answer is yes. Thanks to a client who is an avid label reader, we discovered that iodized salt, even the healthier versions such as Hain Iodized Sea Salt, contains dextrose, a corn sugar. Dextrose is not an anti-caking agent, so why do they add it to sea salt? They say it is to "stabilize" the iodine. We think it is to mask the taste of the iodine.

It is critical that you get sufficient amounts of iodine. So for those of you who are corn-sensitive, what are your options? Read further at link below.

Basic Steamed Quinoa
Clients often mention the trouble they sometimes have making plain quinoa. Hope this helps.

-1 c. quinoa
-3 c. filtered water or MSG-free chicken or vegetable stock
-1/2 tsp. sea salt

Place the quinoa in a bowl and cover with cold water. Let sit 5 minutes. Drain through a strainer and rinse until the water runs clear. Bring the water or stock to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add the salt and the quinoa. Bring back to a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer 15 minutes, or until the quinoa is tender and translucent, and each grain displays a little thread. Drain and return to the pan. Cover the pan with a clean dish towel, replace the lid and allow to sit undisturbed for 10 minutes. Fluff and serve. SERVES: 6-8

Note: Cooked quinoa will keep for three or four days in the refrigerator and can be reheated in a microwave or oven.
