Whole Wheat Has No Weight Benefit. |
According
to the May issue of British
Journal of Nutrition, while it
has been proposed that whole wheat
may be beneficial in weight
regulation, possibly due to effects
on satiety, this current study found
no evidence supporting the theory.
The short-term effects on appetite
and food intake of 48 g of
whole-grain wheat (daily for 3
weeks) compared with refined grain
(control) was evaluated in healthy,
normal-weight adults.
The
study found no effect of whole wheat
on appetite or food intake in
healthy individuals. However, the
whole wheat consumed daily for 3
weeks did have a beneficial effect
on systolic blood pressure. The
findings therefore do not support
epidemiological evidence that whole
wheat is beneficial in weight
regulation.
