Celebrating 30 Years
NCI Well Connect: July 13, 2015
Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW that a new study in Pediatric Research adds more validity to the discovery of probiotic strain Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) being the conductor of myriad probiotic species?

Infants were given either LGG or placebo for the first six months of their lives. Gut microbiota was tested at the age of 3 weeks, 3, 6, 12, 18, 24 months, and 13 years.

At the age of 13 years, ADHD or Autism was diagnosed in 17.1% of children in the placebo and NONE in the probiotic group. The numbers of Bifidobacterium species bacteria in feces during the first 6 months of life was lower in affected children than in healthy children.

Yet another victory for probiotics!

Have a happy, healthy day. Steve and Bonnie

Thumbs Up to Mediterranean Diet for Cognitive Function
Bonnie: In yet another study dedicated to the Mediterranean style of eating, this month's issue of JAMA Internal Medicinestated that older subjects adhering to a Mediterranean diet with extra olive oil and/or nuts exhibited better cognitive scores than older subjects eating their regular diet.

While the results of this study should no longer come as a surprise, it is still astounding to see that the world's standards for eating are still so far from mirroring the Mediterranean style of eating. Of course, for me, a slight tweak to the PaleoMediterranean style of eating is ideal.

You may have already heard about a new style of eating, Peganism, that is all the rage. It's "chic" because it placates both the vegans and the Paleos. Don't buy into the hype. It just preaches eating clean animal proteins and tons of veggies and fruit! You can read more about it in our eNews Brief section.

Twinlab Backorder Status
Due to a raw material shortage that has created a production backlog, Twinlab announced they will not be available until mid-August. Many of you are on the backorder list. Contact us by phone or email if you want to be added to the list.

We spent an inordinate amount of time finding the ideal replacements if interested:

  2. Twinlab Daily One Caps Without Iron: replace with Pure Encaps Multi t/d (one capsule Multi t/d equals one capsule Daily One)
