Vitamin D Deficiency Is An Epidemic.
--------------------
Vitamin D has dominated the health headlines lately."People with a vitamin D deficiency are twice as likely to die." "Lack of vitamin D rampant in infants, teens." "Breast cancer patients deficient in vitamin D." "Vitamin D protects against heart attacks in men." "Vitamin D deficiency increases chances of getting influenza." "Prostates protected by vitamin D." "Ensuring vitamin D levels never get low is a way of protecting against cancer." "Vitamin D to boost mood in older adults." These studies are only from within the last two months. Why so much press? Vitamin D deficiency is officially considered
an epidemic in the United States as well as in many other countries. |

We've Got a Bone to Pick With Oprah.
--------------------
Oprah Winfrey just finished a 21
day cleanse that received a lot of attention. In this case, the
"Oprah effect" may have been detrimental to the thousands that
followed her lead.Kathy Freston, self-proclaimed "Conscious Living Counselor" and author of The Quantum Wellness Plan, has no credentials as a dietitian, physician, or any other licensed health professional. Her cleanse plan can actually create health problems for some individuals. Why? 1. It contains too many common food reactors: Mushroom (mold allergy), Soy (third most common allergen), Wheat (second most common allergen, highest gluten food, and cross reactive to grass pollen), and Peanut (high mold content, life threatening allergy and cross reactive to grass and tree pollen) 2. This cleanse would be awful for anyone suffering from chronic yeast imbalance because many of the foods are yeast-producing. 3. The huge amount of soy could be contraindicated for hypothyroid individuals on medication and for women who have an estrogen positive breast cancer history, especially if they are on medication to keep them in remission. For these reasons, we have created a 2 to 3 week cleanse that is gentle, sustainable, vegan, soy-free, gluten-free, peanut-free, artificial sweetener-free, and well-tolerated for most individuals who suffer from chronic yeast problems. |

Battle Lines Drawn for Pregnancy Care.
--------------------
In April, the American Medical Association made a statement about home
births by voting to tighten physician control over midwives. They also
are going to develop model legislation in support of their concept for
the safest setting for labor, delivery, and the immediate post-partum
period, which is in the hospital setting.
While home births are not by any means the norm, and do not come
without risk, they have been proven to be a safe and incredible
experience for many. |

The Skinny on CFL's.
--------------------
Transitioning to Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs are wonderful for
reducing your electric bill as well as your overall carbon load.
However, if a CFL ever breaks in your house, you need to discard it
properly because it contains a small amount of mercury, which is
especially toxic when emitted through the air.The same goes for standard fluorescent. Click below for the protocol. What if I accidentally break a fluorescent lamp in my house? |

Mosquito Quick Tip.
--------------------
It is still early in the summer, but the mosquitoes are ravenous,
especially in the rain soaked Midwest. We have accounts that mosquitoes
are not just biting at dawn and dusk, prime feeding time, but all day
long. One tried and tested, albeit unconventional preventive, is Vitamin B-1 (thiamin). Taking at least 100 mg. of Vitamin B-1 before going outdoors changes your body's odor, while undetectable to humans, is oppressive to mosquitoes.
