Dear
Valued Client,
We are beta testing a new layout for
our beginning of the month
eNewsletter. We believe it more
succinctly encapsulates our
information in a format more
pleasing to the eye.
Note that Recipe
du Jour and eNews
Updates are in the left
column. There is one new section, Wellness
Links, that hosts Brand
Buzz, Locavore
Tidbit, Ask
Bonnie, eNewsletter
Archives, and more.
Please let us know what you think of
the
new layout.

ORAC
Foods
Oxygen
radical absorbance capacity (ORAC),
measures the ability of a substance
to subdue oxygen free radicals. In
other words, it is shows how potent
an antioxidant is.
Because antioxidants are linked with
so many health benefits, including
aging and longevity, functional food
companies are crawling over each
other to provide the product with
the highest ORAC content. What they
don't want you to know is that there
are already foods made in nature
that provide quite an antioxidant
punch.
The USDA recommends we consume 5,000
ORAC units daily. Unfortunately,
most of us only get about 1,000.
Here is a list of common foodstuffs
with high ORAC content:
- Fresh Spices (most are in
20,000 or more)
- Pecans (17,940)
- Walnuts (13,451)
- Cranberries (9,584)
- Dark Chocolate (9.080 if 70%
or higher cocoa content)
- Blueberries (6,552)
- Plums (6,259)
- Blackberries (5,347)
- Garlic (5,346)
- Raspberries (4,888)
- Almonds (4.454)
