DID YOU KNOW that Mend Hunger is a nonprofit that works with food pantries to provide gluten free and allergy safe foods to individuals with a medically restricted diet and financial need?

Without access to safe foods, parents and children are left to choose between health and hunger. Mend Hunger is the only source of no-cost gluten free and allergy safe food in the Illinois tri-state area.

Fluoride Affects IQ
Bonnie and Steve: A mother's exposure to fluoride during pregnancy could lower the intelligence of her children, according to a study in the September issue ofEnvironmental Health Perspectives.

Following a group of children from the time of their mother's pregnancy to early adolescence, an international team of researchers found an association between high fluoride levels in the mothers' urine and reduced scores on the children's cognitive tests.

This is one of the first study targeting humans, so the research has to be repeated to change public health experts' opinions. However, we don't need any more convincing. We have warned about the dangers of fluoride overconsumption for years.

Studies in rodents have shown that fluoride can alter their cognition and behavior, and researchers in China have found an association between human intelligence quotient (IQ) deficits and exposure to high levels of fluoride in water.

The women were all in at least their 14th week of gestation at the time of recruitment and were free from any disease or complications that would skew results. When the children reached 4 years of age, they took the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities test. Between ages 6 and 12 years, they took the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence test.

They found that for every increase of 0.5 mg/L in fluoride in the mother's urine, the children's general cognitive index changed by a mean score of -3.76. In addition, every increase of 0.5 mg/L in the mother's urinary fluoride was associated with a change of -2.37 in IQ.

The main reason why fluoride is added to the water supply and dental cleaning products is to prevent dental caries. Exposure to one can be toxic, but when we are exposed to both, fluoride toxicity is easily attainable.

We feel that good eating habits and optimal nutrient capacity is all that is needed to prevent dental caries. We know that only a small percentage of the world population adheres to this. In lieu of the aforementioned, we suggest only one method be used for fluoride delivery: water supply OR dental cleaning products, not both.

During pregnancy, we certainly would not recommend using any dental cleaning products with fluoride and make sure your water filter removes fluoride.

Genetic Wellness Testing & Analysis
Cognition & Mental Health

Bonnie and Steve:It only takes a few simple steps to get individualized genetic nutritional support. Test your genome. We translate the results in a way you can understand. We target your individualized needs with nutritional support that can be easily implemented.

Pure Genomics helps the patient with:
  1. Reaffirmation for why existing patients should continue to adhere to their optimal diet and lifestyle. Genes are the deepest layer of individualization. When a patient is doing incredibly well despite horrible genetic deficiencies, it is a strong deterrent to fall off the wagon.
  2. Creates the last thrust of motivation for a patient who is having trouble adhering to their diet and lifestyle protocol.
  3. Provides incredible proof for prevention of family disease history. Connects the dots for many of our patients.
  4. Is a strong component for new patient screenings, especially for methylation, detoxification, antioxidant defense, weight management, metabolic health, memory and cognition, mental health, and essential fatty acid, vitamin A, and vitamin D absorption.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy
Steve: Traditional saunas emit direct heat. Far Infrared uses light to create heat. Far infrared run at much milder temperatures, but travels much deeper into the body, which is why you sweat more vigorously.

Far Infrared Therapy offers numerous therapeutic benefits, most importantly enhanced detoxification. Many of our clients use it to relieve painful joints, rev up metabolism, and remove buildup of heavy metals.

Far Infrared has shown to draw out 15 to 20% more heavy metals (i.e., mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic), hormone-disrupting chemicals, sulfuric acid, ammonia, uric-acid, and fat-soluble toxins than traditional saunas.

A recent study from Age and Ageing, showed that healthy subjects whose sauna use averaged 4 to 7 times per week were 66% less likely to develop dementia at 20-year follow-up than those who used a sauna once a week. In addition, they had a 65% risk reduction for Alzheimer's Disease.

Recent studies in JAMA Internal Medicine and American Journal of Hypertension found that increased frequency of sauna bathing reduced the risk of sudden cardiac death, coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and all-cause mortality.
