not to have?

| Dear
Valued Client, |
Around this time of year, we probably get more
questions about the flu shot than just about
anything else. We understand this is a very personal
decision for many of you. For evaluating
risk/reward, refer to, The

Diabetes
up 90% in Past Decade
|
Fueled by growing obesity, increased exposure to
toxicity, and sedentary lifestyles, Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention officials said there
is no end in sight to the diabetes epidemic.
Most of the newly diagnosed diabetes cases are Type
2, which is more closely linked to lifestyle
choices.
The methods to which blood sugar can be controlled
through diet and lifestyle has been well documented
on our website, blog, and eNewsletters. However, we
want to reaffirm two simple rules for diagnostic
testing if you suspect diabetes may be an issue.
Rule One
Glucose level is not the most accurate indicator for
blood sugar impairment. Glucose levels can widely
vary depending on current health status. In
addition, glucose levels are often screened as
non-fasting, which renders them useless. If fasting,
glucose may act as a marker for further
investigation.
Rule Two
Hemoglobin A1C (HgbA1C) is the gold standard blood
test for diabetes diagnosis. HgbA1C gives a rough
average of your blood glucose levels for the past
two to three months.
New Test on the
Horizon?
In addition to the HgbA1C, another marker may be
appearing on the lab chart: eAG. A study that
appeared in the August 2008 issue of Diabetes
Care established that eAG creates a better
understanding of your HgbA1C results, similar to
what you would see if reading a glucose meter.
Besides giving health professionals better accuracy
in diagnosing blood sugar disorders, eAG is
especially helpful for those who already have
diabetes and need extremely accurate glucose testing
on a daily basis.
