DID YOU KNOW that according a study in the January 2017 issue of Appetite, chocolate appears to increase positive mood, particularly when it is eaten mindfully?

Participants were randomly assigned to eat a small portion (75 calories) of chocolate or a control food (crackers) in a mindful or non-mindful way. Participants who were instructed to mindfully eat chocolate had a greater increase in positive mood compared to participants who were instructed to eat chocolate non-mindfully or crackers either mindfully or non-mindfully.

Natural Substance Activates Your Good Fat
Bonnie and Steve: Good news for those who want to activate their brown fat (or BAT, brown adipose tissue) without having to be cold. New research from the FASEB Journal suggests that the natural compound, rutin, can activate the BAT in our bodies to increase metabolism and facilitate body weight reduction.

In the study, rutin treatment significantly reduced adiposity, increased energy expenditure, and improved glucose homeostasis. Specifically, the researchers found that rutin directly binds to enzymes that stimulate activity of BAT.

Rutin functions similarly to how cold activates BAT activity. Rutin also induced brown-like (beige) adipocyte formation.

Unlike hibernating animals, we only have a small amount of brown fat, and yet its great importance in human metabolism has only recently come into view.

You may see rutin in some of your multis and antioxidant complexes.
