Dear Valued Subscriber,

Did you know that there is evidence of health risks of triphenylmethane dyes (artificial colors) after absorption. A Food and Chemical Toxicologypaper confirmed the fate of Brilliant Blue and Patent Blue, first through shaven pig-ear skin from four leave-on cosmetics, and also on mucosa after licking lollipops, which can be directly absorbed into the blood stream. Findings are troubling, particularly with regard to the frequent use of after-shave products and repeated lollipops licking by children.

Did you know that asthma is heritable, influenced by the environment, and modified by in utero exposures and aging. All of these features are common to epigenetic regulation. Alterations in epigenetic marks have been associated with exposures to asthma, particularly air pollution and tobacco smoke, as well as as the role of epigenetic regulation of gene expression associated with the development of allergic airway disease. Authors in the December issue of Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology believe epigenetic mechanisms represent a promising explanation for the inheritance and immunobiology of asthma..

Have a happy, healthy week. Bonnie and Steve Minsky

Government Journal Admits Huge Fluoride Flaw.
Although fluoride may cause neurotoxicity in animal models and acute fluoride poisoning causes neurotoxicity in adults, very little is known of its effects on children's neurodevelopment. Researchers in the December 4th issue of Environmental Health Perspectives, a US Government-sponsored journal, performed a systematic review of published studies to investigate the effects of increased fluoride exposure and delayed neurobehavioral development. The researchers discovered thatchildren in high fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ scores than those who lived in low fluoride areas. The results support the possibility of an adverse effect of high fluoride exposure on children's neurodevelopment. Future research should include detailed individual level information on prenatal exposure, neurobehavioral performance, and covariates for adjustment.

Bonnie and Steve: This one is hard to ignore. We have warned of this for years now, but pundits always said there was no data to support the fluoride/IQ hypothesis. If concerned, a reverse osmosis water filter will remove fluoride from drinking water.
