Did you know that a new study in the December issue of journal Gutconfirmed that food intolerance reactions (IgG) create and exacerbate Ulcerative Colitis by contributing to intestinal mucosal inflammation?

Have a happy, healthy day. Bonnie and Steve Minsky.

B-Vitamins Lower Risk of Reflux and More.
Esophageal Conditions
Folate is cancer-protective via its effects on DNA synthesis, repair, and methylation. Efficient folate metabolism requires other B vitamins and is adversely affected by smoking and alcohol.
Esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) may develop through a process involving inflammation [reflux esophagitis (RE)] leading to Barrett's esophagus (BE) and carcinoma. Researchers in the December issue of Journal of Nutrition investigated associations between dietary folate and related factors and risks of EAC, BE, and RE.
Esophageal adenocarcinoma risk decreased with increasing folate intake. Similar trends were found for Barrett's Esophagus and Reflux Esophagitis. Vitamin B-6 intake was significantly related to lower risks of all three conditions. Riboflavin intake was associated with lower risk of Reflux Esophagitis.
Current smokers with low folate intakes had an 8-fold increased risk for Esophageal Carcinoma. The same group had increased Barrett's Esophagus risk.
The researchers confirmed that deficiencies in folate and other dietary B-vitamins are implicated in the etiology of Esophageal Carcinoma and its precursors.
Bonnie: Why is this study so important? Because we have said for so long that one of the main nutrients (other magnesium) depleted by Reflux medications are B-Vitamins!
Defining Deadly Sedentary Behavior.
A first-of-its-kind International Journal of Epidemiology study examined various types of sitting simultaneously.
Adverse effects on all-cause mortality were found with prolonged sitting watching television, doing other leisure activities and at meals. In contrast, sitting at work or during transportation was not associated with all-cause mortality.
The details of this study with our recommendations are available to NCI Well Connect subscribers.
