Dear Valued Subscriber,

Did you know that playing puzzle games can improve your mental fitness? A recent study showed that adults who played the physics-based puzzle video game Cut the Rope regularly, for as little as an hour a day, had improved executive functions.
The executive functions in your brain are important for making decisions in everyday life when you have to deal with sudden changes in your environment.

ANNOUNCEMENT: A one year subscription to NCI Well Connect is 40% OFF (49.99 from 79.99) in July. Order here.

Have a happy, healthy week. Bonnie and Steve Minsky

Solution to Reduce Hospital Readmission Rates: Supplements
Researchers from Stanford, USC, and University of Chicago recently sifted through 11 years of hospital data and compared outcomes in patients who had been prescribed nutritional supplements with those who had not.
They concluded that providing oral supplements to Medicare patients resulted in a reduction of thirty day readmissions by 10.1 percent for those with heart failure, 12 percent for those with acute heart attacks, and 8.4 percent for any diagnosis. Supplements also reduced 1.65 days off the average hospital stay and reduced costs by more than $3,000 per admission.

Bonnie: Surprised that this study received no media coverage? I'm not.

NCI Well Connect Testimonial

A subscriber sent this to us last week.

"Thank you for another fact-filled newsletter! I continue to enjoy reading NCI Well Connect and learning about the various topics covered. Nutritional Concepts is the best place to find cutting-edge information.

Not only do you provide nutritional information, the environmental topics presented certainly are an eye-opener to the fact that there could be a huge or even subliminal (but cumulative) effect to impact our health and well-being, whether positively or negatively.

As an example, I had no idea about street tar for patching or sealing, that there have been questions by municipalities. I have often wondered about its health consequences.

Thank you once again for all the work you do, reaching out with sound, helpful information. Shari"
