Dear Steve,

WE ARE CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY!
Today's eNewsletter will be an abbreviated issue.

DID YOU KNOW that a combination of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) and Bidobacterium lactis BB-12 may improve the gingival health in adolescents, according to results of a study in Beneficial Microbes? Sucking on a probiotic lozenges twice a day for four weeks led to significant reductions in plaque and saliva levels two bacterial strains linked to periodontitis.

LAST DAY TO GET AUGUST SALE ITEMS!
See our August and September sale items below. Feel free to leave your order by voice mail, email, or at our website. All orders will ship Tuesday, September 4th. Happy Labor Day!

ADULTERATED, EXPIRED METAGENICS AND PURE ENCAPSULATIONS SUPPLEMENTS BOUGHT ON THE INTERNET
Metagenics sent a memo alerting us of a problem customers have had purchasing counterfeit and adulterated products from third party sources on the Internet. Pure Encapsulations alerted us to similar occurrences with their products. Overheated products, expired products, labels removed, QR codes removed, and label tampering are all major issues. Read the memo here.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported on this issue as well.

We are not a third party vendor. We are an authorized vendor for Metagenics and Pure Encapsulations.

Have a happy, healthy day! Steve and Bonnie

Bad News for Splenda
Sucralose, a widely used artificial sweetener sold under the trade name SplendaŽ, is metabolized in the gut, producing at least two fat-soluble compounds, according to a new study in Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, Part A.

The findings, using rats, differs from the studies used to garner regulatory approval for sucralose, which reported that the substance was NOT broken down in the body. The new study also found that sucralose itself was found in fatty tissues of the body.

This is bad, really bad.

The researchers used the same experimental model used by the FDA to assess the safety of foods based on accepted daily intake.

The researchers found two metabolites in urine and feces throughout the sucralose dosing period. The metabolites were still detected in the urine 11 days after they stopped giving the rats sucralose, and six days after the sucralose itself could no longer be detected!!

Given that the metabolism studies that the FDA's approval were based upon reported that ingested sucralose was not metabolized, this is a major revelation.

Specifically, the metabolites were acetylated compounds, which are highly lipophilic, meaning they are easily dissolved in fat. That means they are more likely to stick around in the body.

In addition, sucralose itself was detected in the adipose, or fatty, tissues of rats two weeks after the rats had stopped receiving sucralose.

Sucralose can be passed on by nursing mothers in their breastmilk. Sucralose can reduce the abundance of beneficial bacteria in the gut. Now, research confirms what we always suspected, that sucralose is also creating toxic metabolites whose potential health effects we know little or nothing about.

The researchers feel that it may be time to revisit the safety and regulatory status of sucralose.

As we have said incessantly, sucralose is a toxin and where do all toxins reside when they can be excreted in the body...fat tissue.

Military Benefits From Chiropractic
Dr. Schuster: A recent study involving 750 active-duty US Service Members ages 18-50 with low back pain, resulted in the reduction of pain and disability plus improved satisfaction of care. These are significant outcomes consistent with existing literature of spinal manipulation involving both military and civilian populations.

These results also align with the recent guidelines from the American College of Physicians, recommending the inclusion of spinal manipulation as first line therapy for acute and chronic low back pain.

Did you know that Chiropractors currently are in VA centers, hospitals and private offices on and off Army bases? Some of the goals are to get veterans off of pain medication along with teaching them ergonomics and diet.

Acupuncture is another discipline that the military includes as well. Perhaps this study will inspire hiring even more Chiropractors and other integrative disciplines to help the vast amount of active-duty service members and veterans that are disabled and have chronic pain.

Based on this study it's been suggested that there be true integration of chiropractic care into the military health care system. The recommendation is to involve communication and referrals between Chiropractors and medical personnel. This serves patients more effectively and efficiently while providing a model for other integrated health care systems involving civilians.

I agree with this suggestion and it exists to a small degree, hopefully becoming the new normal in our healthcare system.
