Question #1:

Bonnie, I have horrific arthritis pain and I don't want to take pain pills forever. What can I do?

Answer #1:

Well, the first thing you need to do is look at your diet. There are numerous dietary triggers that create or exacerbate existing pain. Other than making an appointment, the best thing you can do from a self-help perspective is follow my Pain Relief Diet. It eliminates all potential food triggers (for two weeks). Then you slowly add them back to see what triggered the pain. It is a very successful program. My nutrient suggestions for pain relief are fish/cod liver oil, Metagenics Kaprex, magnesium glycinate, glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM (if tolerated), and SAM-e. Exercise is also a great anti-inflammatory.

Question #2:

I was curious, what is Bonnie’s position on the use of Colloidal Silver? Especially giving it to children when they are sick?

Answer #2:

It is dangerous. The FDA has tried to remove it from the market for years. According to Doctor's Data, "there is much controversy over the long-term safety of consumption of colloidal silver. Very high intake has been reported to give rise to tumors in the liver and spleen in animal studies."

Question #3:

What can you tell me about hypoglycemia?  How is it diagnosed, and what is the treatment?

Answer #3:

Hypoglycemia is essentially low blood sugar, usually a precursor to diabetes. When too many carbs are eaten, or not enough protein or fat is eaten with a carb, the pancreas pours out too much insulin, resulting in a spike, then a huge drop (like going up to the highest point of the roller coaster, then plummeting). It makes people feel tired, cranky, very hungry (usually for more carbs), jittery, moody, and unable to concentrate. The "cure" is dietary - never eating carbs alone (always with a protein and/or fat). When eating carbs, they should always be complex (flax, wild rice, quinoa, and high fiber fruits/veggies are best). For more information on foods and beneficial dietary supplements, refer to our Blood Sugar Balance Plan.

Question #4:

What is the difference between magnesium glycinate (which you have recommended to most of my friends) and Magnesium oxide. Which one is better for a healthy heart ?

Answer #4:

There is a big difference. We suggest Magnesium Oxide primarily for constipation because it has that effect on the gi tract. Very rarely do we recommend that on a long-term basis for magnesium supplementation like we do the glycinate. There are a few of our clients that do not get intestinal discomfort from the oxide, but most do. This is why we like the patented glycinate form, which is better absorbed and easier on the gi tract. It is a much better choice for the long-term.

Have a happy, healthy day.
