ASK
BONNIE for December 2002
Question #1:
I am a male 56 years old and my hair is thinning in the back? There are many
products on line and it is difficult to know whom to believe. I am convinced a
full head of hair can be returned. Any advice?
Answer #1:
If male pattern baldness, probably not. If not male pattern, three issues are:
1) Is there adequate bioavailable protein intake?
2) Is there adequate zinc intake?
3) Is thyroid balance optimal?
If these three are normal, some B-vitamins can help, toxic heavy metals can be a problem, etc. Ideally, these would have to be addressed in an individualized situation.
Question #2:
What are normal cholesterol levels as far as your concerned? My total is 203.
How can I lower it before it becomes a problem?
Answer #2:
Total cholesterol for age 30 and above should be < 130. The HDL should be = or > 50. The LDL should be < 130. The VLDL should be <25. The HDL/LDL ratio should be ideally 2.5 or less. Akropharma Basikol (Plant Sterols and Stanols) and Metagenics Cholarest (Policosanol) are natural substances that can optimize high cholesterol.
Have a happy, healthy day.
