ASK
BONNIE for February 2002
Question #1:
What can you tell me about Splenda? Is Splenda a safe sweetener?
Answer #1:
Splenda is sucralose, a large sugar molecule that cannot be absorbed. It is much safer than Nutrasweet (Aspartame) or Sweet n' Low (Saccharin), but, not nearly as beneficial
as Stevia. It does contain maltodextrin (derived from corn) and is bleached with chlorine. It's not for corn or
salicylate sensitive individuals on a regular basis.
Question #2:
Do products which claim to block the absorption of fat or burn fat really work?
I am seeing ads for chromium picolinate and others. Wonder how to make an
informed choice?
Answer #2:
In response to your question, Chromium Picolinate does not block fat absorption. Its benefit is in regulating blood sugar and gently speeding up the metabolism to build muscle and burn fat. For safety, it's best not to take more than 400mcg. daily. I prefer the GTF form as opposed to the
picolinate because it is yeast-free and safer.
Many so-called fat-burners contain potentially dangerous ingredients, such as ephedra or ma huang. The safest natural weight loss aids are chromium GTF, 7-Keto Lean, Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), and Glucomannan.
Question #3:
What is the nutritional value of mushrooms?
Answer #3:
It depends on the type. Some mushrooms have extreme medicinal value as herbal extracts. When consumed as food, some don't have much nutritional value. Although, some mushrooms are high in B-vitamins. Mushrooms are very low in calories, but they are fungi, so are not recommended for people with yeast or mold allergy/sensitivity conditions.
Have a happy, healthy day.
