Question #1:

Should I be paying the extra money for organic cotton underwear, dishtowels, etc?  Does it make a difference to my skin if I'm washing things before I wear them anyway?  Is it a good idea to purchase organic just to promote the industry?

Answer #1:

It is far more important to INGEST organic foods that it is to cover your body in organic clothing.  However, in a perfect world, it would be wonderful to choose only ORGANIC fibers for clothing.  If everyone did this, we would have a much safer, healthier environment.

If you do not choose only organic clothing, it is important to use cotton or other natural fibers (hemp and silk, in particular) as often as possible when the clothing is directly next to your skin (such as undergarments).  Always wash clothing before you wear it to remove any chemical, viral, or bacterial debris.  Ideally, add baking soda to the last rinse to optimize this process.  If you dry clean your clothing, make sure it is at a dry cleaners that uses only environmentally free products.

Question #2:

I just wanted your opinion, Have a sore throat all week, yesterday throat very inflamed, trouble swallowing, low fever and chills and had sores (ulcers) in throat. Wasn't sure what to do
Called Dr. today and saw her, she of course put me on antibiotics (z-pak)
I'm sure that wasn't a good idea.

The doctor did take a throat culture, rapid strep was neg. and they are going to let the culture grow for a few days.

Answer #2:

All of this sounds like a usual cold except sores (ulcers) in your throat. Did your doctor explain what this could be? If viral, an antibiotic is ineffective. As I tell all my clients, never take an antibiotic unless a throat swab is positive or a blood test showing a CBC (WBC, Neutrophils, Lymphocytes) shows a bacterial infection (there is a very classic pattern to a bacterial versus a viral infection). It takes several hours or one day maximum to get the blood test results. It's worth waiting because a potent virus (especially chronic) can become more virulent if antibiotics are constantly taken to treat it.

Have a happy, healthy day.
