ASK BONNIE for May 2005

Question #1:

Have you read "the China Study?" If so, can you comment.

Answer #1:

I do not agree with the tenets expressed regarding a plant-based diet
being best - especially for everyone. Large population studies,
genetics, and evolution disprove this for most of the world's
population. A plant-based diet will not prevent inflammation which
creates disease. A fish-based diet will. If you look at Native Eskimo
diets, they prove this. The native Mongolian diet was all meat except
for two months a year when fruits and vegetables could be healthily
grown. Humans can live without carbs. They cannot survive without
adequate protein.

The  information regarding nutritional training of doctors, political hype
by the food industry, and the adulteration of our food is "right on."

The perfect diet for all humans includes pure, unadulterated foods made
up primarily of lean meats/poultry/fish, a wide variety of healthy fats,
and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.

Have a happy, healthy day.
