Question #1:
Every now and then I get a few canker sores. What can I do to help with the pain?
Answer #1:
If not herpes simplex, you must look at diet, if you are a gum chewer, stress level, and type of toothpaste.
If it is herpes simplex, take three L-Lysine (500mg) when you feel a sore beginning. You can also do the following:
For immediate relief of canker sores, rinse your mouth out with baking soda AM/PM and use zinc sulfate solution with a Q-tip to apply topically to the sore (s).
As for the cause of the canker sores, excess acid from acidic foods and stress is the most common cause. Certain brands of gum (especially with artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors) and toothpaste also contribute to canker sores.
Have a happy, healthy day.
