ASK BONNIE for April 2005
Question #1:
Can my 11 year-old, 83 lb. son take creatine and glutamine?
Answer #1:
Whoever told you to give your son glutamine and creatine should be drawn
and quartered!
Not only are creatine and glutamine not okay, but they are dangerous for
an eleven year-old and can cause side effects; can cause digestive
distress, emotional imbalance, etc.
Have you not been reading the controversy re: performance-enhancing drugs?
The most important safe nutrients for athletes (and for growth) are
adequate protein, magnesium, and zinc. There is more detailed
information in my book Our Children's Health (Sports Nutrition Chapter).
Have a happy, healthy day.
