COVID Update | Sale Ends Today

From eNewsletter 9/30/2020

DID YOU KNOW that 9 milligrams of astaxanthin was shown to improve composite and verbal memory in individuals who have exhibited mild forgetfulness, according to a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study from Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition?

By the end of the 12-week trial, the astaxanthin group had a higher score for composite and verbal memory compared to the placebo group. The intervention group was also able to remember the names of more people and objects.

A timely study given the recent Neurology report on oft-adulterated nootropic supplements.

COVID-19 CONDITION MONOGRAPH UPDATE

For those interested in getting into the "nitty gritty" of COVID-19, Steve has updated his COVID-19 Condition Monograph. Updates include research on risk for pregnant and nursing women, new inflammatory hypotheses, whey protein, and myriad new references (197 and counting) for the nutrients you know and love!

COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment Continue with extra immune support until summer of 2021. SARS-CoV-2 is not going away anytime soon. Moreover, SARS-CoV-2 is not the only virus we fight. There are influenza (flu), norovirus (stomach flu), adenovirus (common cold), and four other coronaviruses (common cold), among others. Prevent and Fight Coronavirus 2.0 is our must-read protocol. For detailed advice about conventional, as well as integrative treatments, read Steve Minsky's COVID-19 Condition Monograph.

COVID-19 UPDATE

Steve and Bonnie: New COVID research that is relevant to you!

Recent headlines describe males getting severe COVID-19 and dying much more frequently than females. Children's immune response to COVID-19 is much different than adults, which is why we are seeing such low numbers of severe cases in children. As more research comes out, thank goodness, infants born to mothers who had COVID-19 while pregnant look to be fine post-delivery.

Pandemic Positives While only a small slice of the world, a small study performed in a Scottish town exhibited some positives. More quality time with family, developing new hobbies, more physical activity, and better quality of sleep were mentioned by the town's inhabitants. Caveat: those reporting positives were predominately female, from younger age groups, married or living with their partner, employed, and in better health.  Pandemic Negatives: Mental Health According to some reports, depression has tripled in the United States during the pandemic, with the highest rise coming from adults aged 18 to 29 years. It is crucial to acknowledge and address mental health with holistic, as well as allopathic, measures when necessary. Aside from adhering to all optimal lifestyle techniques as much as possible, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or talk therapy are great non-pharmaceutical techniques to address depression.  Vitamin D Shines Again and Again A study from the September issue of PLOS One found that optimal vitamin D levels can lower COVID-19 risk by 54%! In addition, there is a new hypothesis that COVID-19 may be a result of not just a cytokine storm, but a bradykinin storm. What lowers the aggressiveness of both? Vitamin D3. Physical Activity and COVID-19 Recovery A study from Medrxiv elucidated a significant connection between those who continue to stay active and/or perform light physical activity through a bout of COVID-19 than those who become inactive. That said, for children and young adults who had exposure COVID-19, a 14-day hiatus from sports is recommended by American Academy of Pediatrics. Inflammatory Biomarkers Two studies from Medrxriv, one from Nature Medicine, and one from Critical Care suggest the three main inflammatory markers that should be used as predictors for fast diagnosis of patients with higher risk of COVID-19 disease are IL-6, IL-10, and TNFa. You can check for yourself if you have done a Pure Genomics analysis, because we screen for mutations of the IL-6 and TNFs genes. Flu Shot Increases Aerosol Viral Shredding. What Will Happen With COVID? A compelling study from Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests those who get the COVID-19 vaccine quarantine for several days. The authors provide overwhelming evidence that humans generate infectious aerosols post-flu shot even without sneezing or coughing, so a COVID-19 vaccine could have the same effect. We knew about the transmissibility of the nasal flu vaccine, but this the first study we have seen about viral shredding from an injectable flu shot. This should be taken into consideration when evaluating the safety of the COVID-19 vaccines. COVID-19 Likely to Trigger Chronic Disease Even though we're not a year into the pandemic, numerous studies, as well as statements from many experts, are sending out warning calls that SARS-CoV-2 may lead to a host of chronic diseases, such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, not seen for generations. It does not have to be this way. Prevention and optimization can thwart this!
