Healthiest Life vs COVID-19

DID YOU KNOW that the antibiotic Cipro must not be taken with caffeine and dairy?

Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and similar fluoroquinolone antibiotics are usually reserved for

use in patients who have no alternative treatment options for certain common infections because of their association with high risk of tendon tears.

Your physician and pharmacist should always warn you of side effects and contraindications. In the case of Cipro and its family of antibiotics, avoid all caffeinated beverages, including soft drinks. Cipro slows the elimination of caffeine from the body and may trigger nervousness and a rapid heart rate.

Ice cream and other dairy products may interfere with the absorption of Cipro. Antacids also interact to make ciprofloxacin less effective.

Healthiest Life vs COVID-19

Steve: In early January of 2020, when the coronavirus was just starting to make news, we suggested that because it was a virus, following our Cold & Flu Action Plan for prevention was a good idea. Of the myriad recommendations in this plan, the most important was to live the healthiest lifestyle possible.

As we gathered more information and were able to come up with more targeted recommendations for COVID-19, the most important recommendation was still to live the healthiest lifestyle possible.

The sad part of it all was that our government was silent about this throughout the pandemic. We pleaded with public health officials and politicians to urge Americans to live healthy lifestyles. The pleas fell upon deaf ears.

Suffice it to say I was saddened to read a study published in last week's JAMA Internal Medicine that found those who had the healthiest lifestyles going into the pandemic had much lower severity of symptoms if they contracted COVID-19. Moreover, the researchers found that the risk of post-COVID symptoms were cut in half for those who had the healthiest lifestyles going into the pandemic.

We cannot change the errors of the past. But we can learn from them. I hope that all of you will remember this so if and when we are faced with another super-contagion, you will harken back to the most important ideal you can adhere to...live your healthiest life!
