DID YOU KNOW that there is a vast range in quality of avocado oil? According to a study in Food Control, there needs to be a standard set for avocado oil similar to what exists with extra virgin olive oil. As the demand for avocado oil has risen, so have the unsavory adulterers and processors that cut corners. Several of the samples were adulterated with other less expensive oils such as soybean and safflower. Scientists testing dozens of store bought samples found that 82% oxidized before the expiration date, which causes the oil to lose its benefits. The two brands found to be pure and stayed fresh until their expiration dates: Chosen Foods and Marianne's Avocado Oil. LAST DAY OF BACK TO SCHOOL SALE! Continue with extra immune support until summer of 2021. SARS-CoV-2 knows no boundaries and does not discriminate. Besides, SARS-CoV-2 is not the only virus we fight. There is influenza (flu), norovirus (stomach flu), adenovirus (common cold), and four other coronaviruses (common cold), among others. Prevent and Fight Coronavirus 2.0 is our must-read protocol. For detailed advice about conventional, as well as integrative treatments, read Steve Minsky's COVID-19 Condition Monograph.
DEPRESSION, MEDS, VIOLENCE, HOPE
Steve and Bonnie: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), the first class of medication prescribed to those with depression, are associated with an increased risk of committing a violent crime, an effect that may linger up to 12 weeks after treatment discontinuation, according to a new study from European Neuropsychopharmacology.
The large population-based study of more than 800,000 individuals showed the risk was highest in younger individuals and those with a history of prior violent crime. While this is not the first study to hint at the SSRI violence effect, it is certainly the largest. Supplement Combo Seeing these results are so disappointing because there are myriad integrative treatments for depression. For example, a combination of the supplement S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and the probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus plantarum have shown to rapidly alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. The Primary Care Companion CNS Disorders study suggests that those taking the combination for 6 weeks found significant reductions in depression, anxiety, and cognitive symptoms as early as 2 weeks following treatment initiation compared to the placebo. SAMe, in particular, has been studied as an adjunctive therapy to antidepressant drugs and psychotherapy for mild-to-moderate depression. We can also discern your tolerability and need for SAMe from our Pure Genomics panel. Lithium A public health measure we have discussed and referenced several time before, and can be done at a low cost, is adding lithium to public drinking water, much like they do with fluoride. A new study from The British Journal of Psychiatry found that naturally occurring lithium in public drinking water may have not just an anti-violence effect, but an anti-suicidal effect as well. Researchers looking at data from around the world found that geographical areas with relatively high levels or concentration of lithium in public drinking water had correspondingly lower violence and suicide rates. In these unprecedented times of COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent increase in the incidence of mental health conditions, accessing ways to improve community mental health is ever more important. Lithium, sometimes referred to as the 'Magic Ion', is widely and effectively used as a medication for the treatment and prevention of manic and depressive episodes, stabilizing mood and reducing the risk of suicide in people with mood disorders. Its anti-aggressive properties can help reduce impulsivity, aggression, violent criminal behavior and chronic substance abuse. Lithium is a naturally occurring element and is found in variable amounts in vegetables, grains, spices and drinking water. It is present in trace amounts in virtually all rocks, and is mobilized by weathering into soils, ground and standing water, and thus into the public water supply. Lithium could be added to public water systems that have low or non-existent lithium levels.
