DID YOU KNOW that one of the reasons older adults suffer from sarcopenia, or loss of muscle mass, is pancreatic enzyme insufficiency?


As we age, we slowly lose the ability to produce sufficient enzymes in our small intestine to break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. This is called pancreatic enzyme insufficiency.


A recent study in Clinical Nutrition found that about 20% of older adults produce too little lipase to break down fats. After adding a pancreatic/digestive enzyme with lipase, the study subjects digested fats much better.
