Dietitian Organization Shocker

One of the many reasons Bonnie never wanted to become a member of the dietetic organization, The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, is that they would never acknowledge the value of dietary supplements. In fact, they were vehemently against their members recommending them.

It seems they are finally listening to their members, who have been clamoring for a statement like the following. It's only taken over 30 years!

In the November issue of Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the journal for registered dietitians, this statement was published: "The dietary intakes of many Americans are inadequate in some micronutrients. It is among the roles and responsibilities of RDNs and NDTRs under the supervision of an RDN to help educate the public on healthful dietary patterns and on the safe and appropriate selection and use of micronutrient supplements to meet their micronutrient needs and optimize health. To this end, RDNs and NDTRs must keep abreast of research findings on potential benefits and safety of micronutrient supplements, and on the regulatory issues that influence the use of these products."

While it may seem like a no-brainer to you, you cannot imagine how immense this is for so many of their members who have been squelched by such a limiting stance!
