LIFE EXPECTANCY STUDY
Bonnie and Steve: In November of 2019, a troubling study in JAMA reported that while life expectancy in the US increased for most of the past 60 years, there was a decline from 2014 to 2017. Data on 2018 and 2019 have yet to be tabulated.
The decline in life expectancy was due to increases in midlife mortality across all racial groups, caused by drug overdoses, alcohol abuse, suicides, and a diverse list of organ system diseases.
