DID YOU KNOW that according to the results of a study from BMJ Occupational & Environmental Medicine, melatonin can help reverse DNA damage done by poor sleep? Many are unaware that melatonin, a hormone known for its role in regulating sleep, is also a powerful antioxidant.


The participants, who performed night shift work, took either 3 mg. of melatonin or placebo. The melatonin group showed an 80% increase in a urinary marker exhibiting the body’s natural DNA repair mechanism.


This is important because for those who have suffered from years of poor sleep, whether due to night shifts, insomnia or lifestyle factors, melatonin can help mitigate further damage by improving the efficiency of the body’s natural repair processes, even if it does not directly help your sleep.


While safe for most, you should still discuss melatonin supplementation with a knowledgable health professional first.
