DID YOU KNOW that it is of the utmost importance, especially if your child is learning remotely this year, to prime them cognitively and emotionally? Optimal vitamin D3 and magnesium levels are very important. A study from The Journal of Nutrition purported healthy 8 to 9 year-old children who consumed 300 grams per week of oily fish had significant improvement in cognitive scores, as well as attention scores, compared to the placebo group. That is only about 3-4 servings of fish per week. You can do it parents and kids!
STAYING SAFE DURING RE-OPENING Continue with extra immune support until summer of 2021. SARS-CoV-2 is not going away anytime soon. Moreover, SARS-CoV-2 is not the only virus we fight. There are influenza (flu), norovirus (stomach flu), adenovirus (common cold), and four other coronaviruses (common cold), among others. Prevent and Fight Coronavirus 2.0 is our must-read protocol. MAG, MASKS, HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE
Steve & Bonnie: Here's the latest research you may find fascinating!
COVID Attacks Hyperactive, Weakened Immune Systems Simultaneously As we suspected, the effect of COVID-19 can prey upon on a weak immune system, as well as hyper-inflame, and often at the same time. Two papers published last week from JAMA Network Open and JCI Insight confirm this. While it is great news for those if us who are taking multimodal vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc., it is not so great for those administered targeted medications, because they lack multimodal effect. Medications tend to only focus on tampering down one inflammatory agent, or boosting only one part of the immune system. Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc. know how to work with our immune systems harmoniously, as they have done for millennia. They address our immune system needs where necessary, and unless taken in extreme amounts, are not harmful. Hydroxychloroquine Hydroxychloroquine, the medication that has become a political lightning rod, has been shelved in the United States. Almost every study has used it improperly, except for the ones in which it was successful (when prescribed WITH zinc). It will take years for the dust to settle and allow the scientific community to take a fresh look. That said, we have supplied you with nutrients that, based upon a study published in the preprinted database Medrxiv, best hydroxychloroquine and come with no side effects! The study challenged standard care with hydroxychloroquine versus standard care with vitamin D, vitamin C, and zinc. While both forms of treatments lessened the number of days of those who tested positive with COVID-19, those taking vitamin D, vitamin C, and zinc tested negative for CVOID-19 quicker than those taking hydroxychloroquine. We only wish they would have added quercetin, which is a zinc ionophore, and much like hydroxychloroquine, allows zinc to better enter the cell to halt viral replication, but without the side effects.
Magnesium A nutrient that we recommend in our COVID-19 protocol, but has not been mentioned very often during the pandemic, is magnesium. A study in this month's Journal of the American College of Nutrition elaborated on magnesium's importance for "calcium-channel blocking" effects that lessens the hyperinflammatory activity of nuclear factor-Kb, interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, and other related endocrine disrupters. Magnesium also plays a role in regulating potassium loss, and activates and enhances the functionality of vitamin D. Masks Another political volleyball is the mask. Two studies pre-published last week in Medrxiv found that not only were masks effective at reducing transmission of SARS-CoV-2, but came at a very low cost. Moreover, the studies found that masks reduce the transmission of other pathogens, which is why seasonal flu numbers were down dramatically all over the world (and it's not because the flu vaccine was effective, because it wasn't). If the aforementioned has not convinced you, take Lydia Bourouiba's word for it, an expert in fluid dynamics and disease transmission at MIT. You can read her explanation about how pathogens travel and why it is critical to wear a mask. Finally, a Journal of General Medicine perspective brought up a cogent point that often gets lost in the mask debate. You are not only protecting others, but you are potentially inoculating yourself. If you in the proximity of someone with COVID who is wearing a mask, and you are wearing a mask, while you will be exposed to viral particles, the amount may be low enough to avoid symptoms, but enough to trigger your immune system to create a "memory map" to handle it better if exposed again. If You Take a PPI, You Are at The Highest Risk for COVID-19 According to a study in American Journal of Gastroenterology, if you take one proton pump inhibitor (PPI) daily, you double your risk for COVID-19 infection. If you take two PPI capsules daily, you triple your risk. For those of you who do not know, PPIs are prescribed, or taken over the counter, for those with acid reflux. If you take a PPI, please speak to your doctor about switching to an alternative like Pepcid AC.
