DID YOU KNOW that the government is finally looking into the link between the COVID-vaccine booster and tinnitus (ringing in the ears)? The CDC has received tens of thousands of complaints and are now making it more of a priority, especially after already acknowledging that it is a common symptom of long-COVID. This certainly aligns with accounts from our clientele post-pandemic. Over the last few years, dozens have complained of tinnitus symptoms shortly after receiving the third COVID vaccine dose (booster). The reason why this happens to some and not others is multifactorial, but certainly those who are on certain medications, have hypersensitivities, intolerances, and allergies, and have certain medical conditions, all have higher susceptibility to tinnitus. Moreover, those who did not take an antihistamine before the shots (part of our pre-prep COVID vaccine protocol to prevent inflammatory risk) seemed to be more susceptible to tinnitus.

Post-Pandemic Metabolic Trends
Steve: I have been keenly tracking post-pandemic client metabolic trends. One of the more surprising discoveries is that TSH, a blood test commonly performed to assess thyroid function, has been trending hyperthyroid (overactive thyroid), especially in those taking synthetic thyroid medication. Prior to the pandemic, I usually saw TSH levels that trended hypothyroid (underactive thyroid). Whether from COVID infections, COVID vaccines, or a combination of both, the pendulum has swung and I am not the only one who has noticed. Two recent studies in Clinical Endocrinology and Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism cite dozens of case reports of subacute thyroiditis (hyperthyroid) and early-onset Grave's disease post-COVID vaccination. The authors postulate that the vaccine adjuvants (immune accelerators) and cytokine storms may be to blame. Hyperthyroid symptoms are numerous, but here are some of the most common: fast heartbeat (tachycardia), irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), pounding of the heart (palpitations), nervousness, anxiety and irritability, tremor (usually a small trembling in the hands and fingers), excessive sweating, more-frequent bowel movements, muscle weakness, sleep problems, and fine, brittle hair. If you're on thyroid medication, your TSH levels are 1.5 or less, and you have one or more of the aforementioned symptoms, you may want to ask your physician about further testing and/or recalibrating your medication dosage. Fish Oil and SPMs On a positive note, there is a reason we are so adamant about getting enough omega-3's in your diet and if you contract COVID, why you need to use fish oil-derived pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) to extinguish the inflammatory cascade. A study from Medrxiv found increased IL-6 levels were associated with the development of Post-COVID Conditions (PCC) and there was a trend for decreased PCC with early COVID treatment with high-dose fish oil. Findings from a study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggest that nutritional strategies to increase circulating omega-3 fatty acid levels, such as increased consumption of oily fish and/or use of fish oil supplements, significantly reduce the risk of adverse COVID-19 outcomes.
